Practicing Creativity

Did you know that my friend (and Feb EIC guest designer) Courtney Baker has her own stamp company? It's called Practicing Creativity. She currently has two stamp sets that you can purchase directly from her blog, click HERE.

I wanted to tell you a little bit about these stamps. Ok, so these stamps are awesome! They are clear photopolymer which is about a million times than acrylic. These are FABULOUS! Forget anything I've said in the past about other brands, these ones are the BEST! I didn't have to prime them. I didn't have to use special ink. I didn't have to stamp on a mousepad. The images are crystal clear. Did you see how many times I stamped the dandelion yesterday? It was so easy!

I used the You're Dandy set. You also saw a card using this same set yesterday on my EIC post. For this card, I used the two dandelions, the little pieces coming off the dandelion, and the Thank You sentiment. The ribbon is May Arts. The twine is SU. On the dandelions and the fluff, I used the Sakura Quickie Glue Pen and some Sparkly Fluff.

You'll see lots more Practicing Creativity creations from me. Now, it's really important that you know that Court NEVER asked me to write this. She and I are friends but I would not steer you wrong. Court is as sweet as sugar and as talented as they come. Check out her BLOG.

EtsyInspired #77 ~ United Thread

This week's EtsyInspired shop is United Thread. This is a very cool store. They only sell original art, no prints. Each piece is signed and dated. They have drawings and watercolor paintings. All the art is sold on heavy weight archival watercolor paper. They have a wide selection of nature inspired art. Everything from animals (like owls and whale) to plants (like oxtails and ferns) to "floating farms." The colors are very subtle and earthy. The pieces so an interesting sense of whimsy to them. All drawings are shipped in a protective sleeve and have a sturdy back or envelope for support.

This week, United Thread is offering up a print valued at up to $25 of the winner's choice. Just pick any item in the United Thread shop to be inspired by. Make any creation that you would like and link it to the EtsyInspired #77 post on the EtsyInspired blog and you will be entered in a random drawing to win. Please link your creation by Friday March 5th by noon Pacific time. If you upload to SCS or PCP, please use keyword EIC77.

This week's sponsor is Sakura of America. How lucky are we?!? They make an amazing line of pens. They have traditional gel pens, Glaze pens (which leave a nice sheen on the items), and Souffle pens (which have a matte finish and bump up slightly.) They also make the Quickie Glue pen which lets you do things like write and then coat it in glitter. It writes very finely. There are TONS of other products like stickers, erasers, adhesives and many others made from Sakura. Check them out!

Here is my card for this week. It is inspired by Copper Bees and Dandelions. This is a one layer card. I know, crazy, huh? The stamps are from Practicing Creativity's You're Dandy set. (More on this company tomorrow!) I used brown ink and then a Sakura Glaze pen in orange to highlight with. I also used some glitter.

FWF: On Antibiotics and Ready to Stamp Again!

Maybe you could tell by my oh so clever title that I am stamping again. It feels nice! :) Though, looking at my card for yesterday, I'm not sure I had my bearings quite right yet. But here goes, it's Friday and that means Unity's Friends with Flair!

My first card I made for Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger (a GORGEOUS card by my GORGEOUS pal Kimberly Crawford) and the Moxie Fab Stamping Olympics. I made this into a birthday card. I tried to change things up quite a bit from Kimberly's card. I reversed the black and kraft card stock. The DP is October Afternoon and I used a MS border punch on it. The sentiment is from Unity's Another Sweet Day May 09 KOTM. I used some black ribbon from Michael's, stick pins from Joann's and bling from Kaisercraft. I love how this turned out!

This second card is a SUPER late one for the Limelight sketch last week. I was so sick that I never got around to doing it but I loved the sketch so I figured, I'd still make a card. This uses the current KOTM. The paper again is October Afternoon. The rhinestones are Darice.
Happy Friday everyone!

Oh, Alice! Challenge

My ADORABLE friend Jessica Diedrich started a new challenge blog called Oh, Alice! It is based on all things Alice and Wonderland. You know that I am a huge fan of challenge blogs. ;) So, I decided to give her challenge a try and support her and her team in this new endeavor.

This week, there was a picture of some makeup to be inspired by. I took the mushrooms and purple tones from the picture as my inspiration. I also combined this with the SCS sketch challenge and the Ippity challenge this week to make a card/layout using an SCS sketch. My card uses stamps from Because of You (available for purchase in my sidebar) and DP from Papertrey Ink. I also used a rhinestone and some Stickles Glitz for the first time. Oh my gosh! I love love love these Stickles! Super sparkly and know you how I love the sparkles!

There's still a little time to play along with the Oh, Alice Challenge, you all should check it out! :) Also, check out my pal Jodi's blog candy HERE.

Flossin' Moxie Fab Style

The current Moxie Fab challenge is to use floss on your card. I've had this card in my brain for a while now and the challenge was a great reason to let it out. I saw a card with a stitched heart at my LSS and had to recreate something like it!

So this card is super minimal on supplies. I used white card stock. Then I hand drew the heart and then stitched it randomly with pink floss. The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Co. I matted this onto my card base and Voila!

On a personal note, I found out that I have tonsillitis. Oy! I'm on antibiotics now, keeping my fingers crossed that it passes quickly.

Another Card I Made Last Week

So, I am finally going to the doctor tomorrow so hopefully things will get figured out and I'll start getting better. Dustin went to the doctor today and found out he has bronchitis. Yuck! The kids really seem ok though. I'm surprised by that but really really thankful.

Onto my card, I made this LAST week. I can't believe people think that I am actually creating. Teehee. I wish! I am pulling out cards I've already made and photographed. I'm just blogging from bed or the couch is all. So, don't think that I'm some crazy sick crafter.

This card was for the Curious Case of a Card on TGF's blog. The card we were CASE-ing was Marie's card which was so super cute! I didn't win the challenge but I'm happy with my card regardless. I did horribly with this picture. The black card stock is embossed with the Houndstooth folder. The stamp is The Greeting Farm, obviously. The DP is K and Company. And the little label is Deco Bugs which I will tell you more about when I'm well. I hand wrote the sentiment which again, you really can't see.

Be well friends!

Still Sick But I Have a Card

I'm waiting for my doctor to email me back about some new symptoms I've developed so I figured I would just blog a pre-made card. On a personal note, we are NOT doing well here at the D. Newell camp. :( We think that we are starting to feel better and then it just gets worse. D has a doctor's appointment today so hopefully that will help. The kids seem ok though other than a lingering cough. I'm glad to take the brute of it if they don't have to.

Here's a super simple card I made. I used Basic Grey Sugar Rush paper and punched it out with my Marvy square punch. I made the grid and then added some Basic Grey bling to the center. Then I added a sentiment in a frame from the Just Wanted to Say Ippity Set that is available in my sidebar. Easy peasy.

Have a good day everyone! And please keep us in your thoughts or prayers for healing as we've been sick for far too long already.

PS Check out Stephanie's awesome blog candy HERE.

Ippity but I'm Sickity :(

I have the flu and I'm soooo sick. I hope all you other Ippity peeps are happy and well! If anyone wants to send healing thoughts my way that would be awesome. I still have the babies to take care of.

Here's a card I made for last week's challenge to make background paper with stamps. I used the Because of You Stamp Set (available in my sidebar.) And I used some paper and ink. Can't think right now. Brain mushy.

Have a good week everyone!

FWF: Two Cards This Time

YAY! It's Friday! One day closer to the weekend which for us starts on Sunday. :) No big plans for us this weekend as much kids both have fevers now. :( But hopefully as they nap and lay on the couch, I'll get a little crafty time in.

Ok, my first card today is to celebrate the weekend. Teehee! Not really, but who couldn't use a cocktail card in their stash? The bottom of the card uses the dot stamp from Savor the Moment (Jan 10 KOTM.) A lot of my favorite stampers like Heather P and Sarah Martina use lots of background stamps so I figured I'd give it a try. The sentiment is from Cocktail Party. The pretty martini bling is Mark Richards. The patterned paper is from Doodlebug Designs Inc.

The next card I made is a super duper simple card. I used a card base from ShortCuts. The flourish is a rub-on from Hambly Studios which I LOVE. The sentiment is from Unity's Fresh Beginnings (April 09 KOTM) and the bling is Kaisercraft. I used an EK Success corner punch and a Martha Stewart border punch.

An Easter Card (Early huh?)

Ok, so I'm usually scrounging around at the last moment to get cards made for holidays so this Easter card is quite a surprise. However, don't be too proud of me. The image is actually from an Our Craft Lounge make-n-take at CHA. The box didn't quite make it on my travels home so I managed to save the image.

This image is from Our Craft Lounge's Hippity Hoppity set. It's such a cute little set! Now, a great thing about make-n-takes is that they get you to try new things. Well, they had Sparkly Fluff for us to use and I love love love it! You just adhere it with some quickie glue pen and that's it! No heat setting or even waiting for it to dry. Anyhow, the DP is DCWV and the punch is Fiskars.

Happy Thursday everyone!! PS I gave up shopping for Lent, wish me luck!

Out of MY Box Birthday Card

Ok, so I totally forgot to blog today. I had to take BOTH kids to the doctor since they have been sick for like a week and a half and yesterday Parker spiked a fever. However, $30 later, the pediatrician told me that they just had a bad cold. Sigh..at least it's nothing serious. But I'm not so sure being that Parker keeps CRYING all the time and it's breaking my heart.

Moving on. I made a totally out of the box Happy Birthday card and I'm not sure I like it. But I figured I'd show it and get your feedback. It's a non A2 size but I'm not sure what it measures. I'm on the laptop right now and if I leave the room Parker will cry. Anyhow, the designer paper is Basic Grey, the journalling spot is Jillibean Soup, the chipboard present is Cosmo Cricket and the letters are Thickers.

Have a great Wednesday evening/night everyone!!

Thank You! You're Tweet!

Morning friends! I hope that you are well! I'm doing ok. My tummy is bugging me a bit so that's why you aren't seeing me on blogs or Twitter as much. But it's nothing I can't handle and it'll pass soon enough.

Today, I've decided to share a happy spring card since it's been kind of dreary in some places. I can't complain too much, we've had some nice weather here. This is a little card I made for the CARDS call that didn't get picked up. I'm ok with that though. :) The bird stamp is Imaginisce, the speech bubble is MFT, and the sentiments are A Muse. The bird paper is American Crafts and the pink dot paper is Bo Bunny. I cut the green paper to make it look like grass and added some rhinestone flowers.

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!

NEW IPPITY!!! WOOHOO!!

Hey everyone! Today is soooooo exciting! We have a BRAND NEW Ippity Release! All the new stuff is now in my sidebar. And at the top, under my Ippity logo, there's a link to a post that will allow you to see larger images of the sets.

Unfortunately, I don't have my new stamps yet. I ordered them when I got back from CHA and I'm expecting them any day now. :D So, the card I have to share with you is a bit older.

My card uses Devoted. I love this set! It's so pretty! This card is for a house warming or other such home event. Maybe like a welcome home. The paper is American Crafts. The letters and ribbon are for the Target $ Spot. The die cut is Nesties Label 1. The punch is Martha Stewart butterfly punch and the rhinestones are Darice.

Check out the Ippity blog to see everyone else's creations today! :)

Happy Valentine's Day! (Look at What MY Valentine Made Me!)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I know that not everyone celebrates Valentine's Day since it's "commercial" but I love to celebrate so any reason to celebrate is fine by me! :) And a couple times when I was little, my mom made a big deal about some holidays and it was SOOO special and I'll never forget that, so that's what I want for my kids.

Moving on, LOOK AT WHAT MY VALENTINE MADE ME!!! I was presented with this awesome card from my Dustin. :D Isn't it so pretty? He got so fancy, using punches and all different kinds of paper. He even lined the inside so that he could write in it! I love it! And inside was my present! What was it?!? A day of pampering! I get to get a mani/pedi AND my hair done!! WOW! It's ok for you to be jealous! ;)

I hope your Valentine's Day has filled your heart with joy like mine has! :) If you don't have a Valentine, don't fret! I LOVE YOU! :)

EtsyInspired #75 ~ Spin Designs

This week's EtsyInspired shop is Spin Designs. They offer two really amazing products in their shop. Now I normally focus on shops with ONE kind of product but since this shop does both so well, I decided it was ok. First off, they have beautiful jewelry. Some of it is super sculptured looking and graphic and some of it is just plain fun (like the owl.) The designs are unique and lovely. The second thing they offer is AMAZING mobiles! They are made out of quality mat-board and are just exquisite! I've never seen anything like them! I love the fact that they are large too! It's taking the whole decor thing to a whole different level and I really like that. Again, they offer everything from elegant to darling and fun.
To play along with our challenge, all you have to do is go to the Spin Designs shop and pick any item to be inspired by. Make your creation and post a link to it on the EtsyInspired #75 post on the EtsyInspired blog by next Friday, Feb 19 by noon Pacific time. Everyone will be entered into a random drawing to win. If you upload to SCS or PCP, please use keyword EIC75. And PLEASE remember to give credit to the shop that you found your inspiration from.

What do you win? This week's sponsor is Doodle Dragon Studios aka Dustin Pike. Dustin is known for his super cute digi stamps. He works for lots of different stamp companies. This week's prize is a $10 store credit to Doodle Dragon Studios.

Here is my creation for this week. I was inspired by the mobile above to make a wedding card. This uses a Hambly rub on at the top and Unity stamps at the bottom.

FWF: I'm BACK! YAY!

Oh my gosh! I can't remember the last time I participated in a Friends With Flair! It's obviously been too long! I'm glad to be back and I hope life remains calm for a while.

Here's a card I made witha new Unity set called Spring Unity. You can buy it a Limelight Papercrafts b clicking HERE. Unfortunately, you can't see my sentiment too well. It says "home is where our nest rests." Super cute, huh? The paper is Sassafrass and so is the cloud sticker.

Don't forget to check out the Unity Blog for the full list of participants! Happy weekend everyone!

8 NEW Ippity sets!
Available for purchase Monday, Feb 15th!!

Hi! :)

Look! I'm getting out of my box! I'm kind of proud of myself. I don't like to think that I'm in a rut but I know what I'm comfortable with and I feel like if it's not broken, why fix it? But I'm trying and getting a little better.

Here's my "Hi" card. I used alphabets to make the sentiment, which is different for me. Ok, maybe I shouldn't tell you all the ways this is different. I mean, I'm sure you can see them. The paper is Basic Grey, Nook and Pantry. The butterfly was actually taken off a package that was sent me to. It's so pretty! I need that punch! The journalling spot is Jillibean Soup.

What I've Been Doing

So, I've been a little quiet lately. I guess not that quiet but I'm just not that on top of blogging like I usually am but it's that time of the month again. You know what I mean, publication call time. These are the cards I made for the CARDS July 2010 call.

The call ended today so I'll be back to my normal soon, but we are all sick so we'll see how it goes. I don't know HOW we all ended up sick again but such is life. I can't wait until cold and flu season is over!

Today, I'm gonna share my favorite card I made for the call. This uses one of the NEW Unity sets called Could I Be Any Cuter? I love this set! It's darling! It's only available at local and online retailers because Unity wants you to buy from the AWESOME people who sell their stamps. Because they are SO sweet like that. Enough of me gushing about Unity.

My card base is Kraft. My patterned paper is Basic Grey Origins. I pulled out TONS of bling for this card. One of the publication calls was for using jewels. For this card, I used bling from Doodlebug Designs, Kaisercraft, Darice, and Studio 18.

Hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday!

Mercy's Sketch for The Greeting Farm's FFF

This week is my first time playing in The Greeting Farm's Farm Fresh Friday challenge. Every Friday they put up a challenge and everyone is invited to play along. I don't know why I've never done it before. But there are a MILLION challenges out there so it's hard to get to them all.

This stamp is from the Signature Set. Did you know that my little sister's name is Dorothy? That's why I always love Wizard of Oz stuff. Anyhow, I colored this with my Copics and rounded a couple of the corners. The DP is DCWV. And then I added some dew drops.

Hope you are all having a great day!

A Winner, A Sketch Card, and Some Fun News

First the winner of my Clear and Simple Stamps blog candy, picked by Random.org:
Emily (stampingout on SCS) said...

Oh, WOW! I just went and checked out their shop and I LOVE that they have cardstock to match copics! That is a genious idea!
Their stamps are also super cute! Thanks for telling us about this fab company, Ashley!

Emily, I already have your info so I'll send that out to you. :)

Next is a card. I made this for this current CPS challenge. Seriously, how far out of my box did I go for this one? Ok, maybe not that far but it's definitely not in my comfort zone. The stamp is from Unity Stamp Co. The frame is Melody Ross for GCD. The background paper is Basic Grey Nook and Pantry. The brown CS was embossed with Swiss Dots. What do you think? It's not matchy-matchy like I usually am. It has a slight vintage vibe too, I think. But somehow, I still managed to pull off cute. Sigh...I can't get rid of the cute. It's in my blood.

Ok, next, my NEWS! I am now writing an article for Examiner.com. :) How cool is that? I will be writing on Arts and Crafts. You can bookmark my page or subscribe HERE. And you can go HERE to read my first article.

Finally! An Ippity Card and LAST Week for My Current AMAZING Prices!

Hello all! It's an Ippity Monday! Hooray! I hope you all had a good weekend. Ours was good but a little stressful. What can you do though?

Here's a quick card I made with some of my Ippity stamps. The flower is from Because Of You and the sentiment is from Just Wanted to Say. The paper is the MME Be*Loved that came with my Ippity stamps.

On a different note, I have decided to switch to suggested retail prices for my Ippity Stamps starting next week. Let me explain why. As I was walking around CHA, I noticed how dramatically higher most companies' stamps are. Little tiny sets were $20, unmounted cling red rubber or clear stamp sets for $18 a small set. And I just realized how SPOILED we were during Unity's first year of business. They probably BARELY made any money and constantly gave things away. But why shouldn't we price our sets competitively with other companies?

I hope when people look at the low Ippity prices, they don't think it's because it's because of quality. Quite frankly, Unity has one of the BEST stamps I've ever dealt with. I would not sell them if I didn't think so. It's DEEP etched red rubber. And the stamps are BIG. These are not some dinky little sets. The flower I used on the card above it the size of my PALM. Here's a picture I snagged off the Ippity site so you can see how awesome the stamps are.

And on a personal note, I'm not trying to sell stamps to get rich or anything. I sell stamps because I love them and want to share them with you. And also because while I'm able to be a stay at home mom, things are very tight for us. Hopefully, if I can make good sales, we'll be able to afford those little things that make life so rich like gymnastics classes or preschool for the kids. That's really my only goal, to make enough so that I can provide a little extra comfort for my family.

***If you'd like to take advantage of the current lower than retail prices, please do so now! Next week, they'll be at retail***

Makeup 4 the Weekend #15

Oh Danni Bindel, you are after my heart, aren't you? ;) This week's Makeup for the Weekend challenge was issued by Danni and she challenged us to make something pink with lots of bling. Ummm, hello? Have you ever been to my blog before? We should just call that the Ashley challenge.

So, I've used one of my favorite fairies, Marissa. Isn't she sweet? She looks so dainty and cute! I colored her with my Copics, used clear Spica pen on her stars, and then coated them with Sakura Glaze pen. I added some Stickles to her wings, as I always so. Then used some Basic Grey Bittersweet paper. Finally, I created a little swirl of bling using some Kaisercraft rhinestones.

Hope you all are enjoying the Superbowl. We are watching Blue's Clues at our house since that's the only thing Brady allows on our TV. :-0

Limelight Sketch Featuring Hearts

Since we aren't really a football family, we'll just be doing the norm today. ACTUALLY, we are going to try to head to Costco in hopes that it's pretty empty. Our Costco is soooooo packed all the time, even during the day on weekdays. It's like people around here don't work! We'll see how it is on Superbowl Sunday.

Here's a card I made for the current Limelight Papercrafts sketch and product challenge. The focus this time is on hearts. :) I love hearts, did you know? Could you tell? Anyhow, I used some Recollections Polka Dot paper and made the stripes with some Bobbin Ribbon grosgrain ribbon. Then I stamped the heart twice, it's Heartfelt Memories from Unity Stamp Co. The first payer is put directly onto the card and then I cut just the heart out and popped it with 3D Dots. Then I just spelled love with some Making Memories stickers. Easy Peasy.

Happy Sunday everyone!

EtsyInspired #74 ~ Traveling Mama

This week's EtsyInspired shop is Traveling Mama. Now, some of you may know Tina Fussell aka (Travelingmama) from her blog. She's an amazing paper crafter. However, you might not have known that she has a Traveling Mama Etsy shop that she sells her awesome photography in too! Her photos are soft, airy and beautiful! I love the colors as well! Her style is extremely artistic. These would be perfect for using to decorate your home with. You can live vicariously through Tina's travels with her gorgeous photography. It might be *almost* as good as going yourself!

To play along with our challenge, all you have to do is go to the Traveling Mama shop and pick any item to be inspired by. Make any creation that your little heart desires and post a link to it on the EtsyInspired #74 post on the EtsyInspired blog. To be entered in the drawing, you must post your creation by next Friday Feb 12, noon Pacific time. A random entry will be selected to win. If you upload to SCS or PCP, please use keyword EIC74. Also, please remember to give credit to where you got your inspiration from. Any entries that do not have credit given will not be eligible to win.

What do you win? This week our sponsor is Simple Doodles. The winner will receive three digital stamps of their choice.

Now go be EtsyInspired!

Here is my card. I was inspired by the beautiful light colors and the airy feel of the photos in the shop. This is also for the Caardvarks wedding card challenge. The stamps are Clear and Simple Stamps. The vellum is just purple polka dots from my stash.

Don't forget, you can still help out the Tadlock family with all their expenses but buying the Baylee Fairy digi stamp from Paper Makeup Stamps. It costs $3 and all proceeds will go to Baylee's family. I can only imagine how much the owe in medical bills. Yikes!

He's Just a Skater Boy

Hi everyone! Hope that your Friday is going well so far! I'm doing great! I had coffee with some friends this morning and then headed over to Joann Fabrics for some basics ie ribbon, bling, corner punch. I'm supposed to have an open house tonight that I bring my cards and Ippity stamps to but I'm not sure about that.

Anyhow, here's my card for today. It's Skater Ian, he reminds me of that Avril Lavigne song from a while back. Isn't he fun? Just perfect for boy/teen cards. I used the Moving Along With the Times Sketch from this week. I colored him with my Copics. The DP here is DCWV. I tried coloring the chipboard with some pigment ink, it worked pretty well but not exactly the colors I wanted.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Video Tutorial: Poufy Flower

Here's the tutorial I made for you all for the poufy flowers that I had on my blog a couple weeks ago. I hope you enjoy. :) Sorry it's a little dark, it was night time.

Holy Smokes, is That Some Mojo?

Every now and then, I wander outside my tiny A2 box where each card has about five layers. It's rare but it happens. However, it's even MORE rare that I like the results of what I make. But the stars alined today. :)

I made this card for the KL Stampin N Scrappin Challenge #15. Now, I usually do like this many layers. And to be honest with you, I actually tried to make this into an A2 card but it wouldn't work. It ended up being a 5.5 inch square. I actually did some fancy coloring today. I thought I forgot how while I was at CHA. All the paper is Basic Grey, Bittersweet. The image is CC Designs. :) Hope you like it too!

Two Cards in ONE Day?!?

I know, shocking huh? I'm not totally thrilled with them. I just used images that were already colored and sitting on my desk. These are from when I FIRST got my Copics, so yikes. My mojo is a bit off. I think it's all the family stuff I have to deal with and my bum ankle. I went to the doctor and he said I have soft tissue damage. Whatever that means.

Anyhow, my first card uses the gorgeous Geisha Anya. You know, I left a comment on The Greeting Farm blog like a billion years ago asking for a Geisha Anya and lo and behold. :) Love Marie! Anyhow, I used the Skipping Stones Designs Sketch 10 for this. The paper (how PERFECT for this image?) is actually exclusive at my local scrapbook store, Scrap-N-Stamp. It's from Fung Hosokawa Designs. I love this stuff! GORGEOUS!

My next card is for two challenges, first the PMS challenge to use your favorite stamp. This is the Baylee stamp and all the proceeds go to the Tadlock family. I went to Baylee's memorial service this past weekend and let me tell you, she was a SPECIAL angel! And her parents are AMAZING. Go buy this stamp! Plus, if you make something with her by midnight on Feb 4th and post it ON THIS POST then you can enter that blog candy.

This card is also using Jack's sketch for the current Diedrich Dare challenge. I love Jessica! I love her kids. And I love their challenge! I wish I could just go live at their house. :D Ok, maybe not, her kids and my kids, it'd be like a zoo. But anyhow, just play along. There's even a prize this time.
